FRESH ROOTS
Community films at Cornerhouse
A special screening of over a dozen short films recently made in
the region as 'community' productions, including:
When John met Kate (BiteBack/CAN)
An amusing portrayal of issues and negative assumptions that
surround two young disabled people going on a date.
Travelling (WAWA/WFA)
An animation based on a local poem takes a comical look at the
trials of nearly going on holiday with your mum and dad.
Pure Energy (Freehold YC/Kooj Chuhan)
Drugs, crime and Aids threaten an Asian footballer's chances in
this atmospheric drama set in an Oldham Asian ghetto.
Something For Us (High Peak Community Arts)
Young people without money or transport dispel the myth of
rural harmony and set their own agenda.
Respect (Prescap)
Made for Preston Mela 99; Asian elders, young people and gay men
talk about their lives in contemporary Britain.
The screenings will be followed by an informal discussion with
some of the producers and participants around the future of
community-based film.
