Carol Batton - Manchester Poet
1995
Homophobia can cure,
Arthritis and Depression,
Or is it Homeopathy,
I should mention?
Stags.
Stags display with antlers...
Battle it out,
But rarely kill.
Man displays with nuclear bombs...
He probably won't use them?
Etching.
There are scratches on the table
and, yes,
Someone has carved their name.
There is fame from being a vandal,
And then there's a different fame.
6th August 1995 - 50 years, since Hiroshima...
I walk.
I walk alone.
I walk to mark the day.
The sun is very high.
The sun shone low that day,
Across the entire sky.
I walk to mark the day.
Hot and Unemployed
I snack or snooze,
Whenever I choose,
Keep off the booze,
Or check the News,
Excuse myself the bloody blues!
It's much too hot for 'Do's.
Lottery Ballad, (Not really an Ode).
Ode to the odds,
Which are greater because,
You lost last week...
Or are they?
Ode to the sods,
Who won last week...
Those lucky bods,
Who are they?
Ode to the luck?
That follows the week,
That I'd thought what I'd do,
But would I?
Ode to the fact,
That winning a lot,
Can cause woe!
Oh! No!
Why play then?
