Carol Batton - Manchester Poet

1995 pt2 | pt1

Short Description of Manic Depression. 1. Save the World. 2. "I can't do it". 3. "Let's kill myself". In Doubt. I did it in doubt, I did it half-dead, It began as a whisper, The things that I said. I did it alone, Overlooked by their law; It did not earn money, But I felt OK poor. I'm allowed on the sick. Write me off, if you will. Each day for a Decade, I did things in doubt, I'm now a known poet, The whisper's a shout! English. English is the language, to tell lies in. English is a language, that is rich. Words are loaded heavy to deceive you, There is no deception they can't reach. All the Politicians and the Papers, Praise the land, But more they praise the Speech. With English it's so easy to denounce you. Oppression, (Is but Justice,) so they teach. The Law. It was illegal to help Jews. 'Long live the law.' It's illegal to help immigrants anymore. But this is democracy. G-d help the law. It was also democracy, the time before. North. I'm in the Northern half, Of a Northern city, In the Northern Hemisphere - So it's cold. The Mad Psychotic Explains. I read the papers everyday. And I know, they're violent, so they say. Bravely, she let me listen, Bravely, I let her explain, I even met her again. She sympathised with my pain... I now know she is sane, And the newspapers inane.
